Discover the history and nature of Nederweert-Eind
This walk of just over 6 kilometres takes you past the finest history and nature of Nederweert-Eind. Start at Pastoor Maesplein, known for its distinctive paving and artworks, then visit St. Gerardus Church from 1955, one of the Netherlands' most striking post-war churches, featuring over a hundred mosaics and artworks by Pierre Weegels and Cor van Geleuken. Diagonally opposite, you'll spot the colourful former nursery school building, also designed by Weegels.
From there, step back in time at open-air museum Eynderhoof, where you'll discover farm life from around 1900-1950, traditional syrup-making, and old crafts. The route then leads you into the Peel area: past the prehistoric path near Rowven, the Tjongerjager viewing column, and the precious peat and heathland remnants of Sarsven en de Banen, one of the Netherlands' last surviving ice-age landscapes.
Along the way you'll also pass the Philomenahoeve estate, where sheep graze the fragile heathland, and the Houtsberg, a lovely spot to pause for a moment. A varied route for anyone who loves both history and nature.
